COMPETITIVE SWIMMING PROGRAM

The competitive Age program at Sydney Uni caters for swimmers across 6 levels aged 9 years and over who have met the entry standard for the squad relative to their ability. The program follows the long course summer season and the short course winter season, with breaks occurring at the end of summer and the end of winter. Squad fees are paid monthly. Swimmers in the program must be financial members of the Sydney Uni Swimming Club and must attend swim carnivals as set down by the coaching staff. Entry into the program is by pre-arranged trial, with the final decision at the discretion of the Head Coach.

To arrange a trial or for further information, please email the Sydney Uni Swimming Head Coach, Paul Bruce on p.bruce@sport.usyd.edu.au

Open/Varsity Squad: (4 – 8 Sessions per week) - $100 per Month plus $20 annual membership

This squad was created to offer University Aged Athletes the opportunity to train with their peers in a competitive and non-competitive environment relevant to their goals and aspirations. We have National Scholarship athletes preparing for international competitions, through to former athletes continuing to train for fitness and wellbeing. One thing in common, they all love the sport and see no reason why you cannot swim well into your 20’s and remain competitive.

National Target Squad: (6 – 8 Sessions per week) - $180 per Month plus $20 annual membership

The focus of this squad is to produce the best results possible at State Age and National Age championships each year. The goal of this squad is to manage the swimmers through High School and transition them to the Varsity Program. The minimum age will come in line with the new National direction being 13 years for females and 14 years for males. There is a real emphasis on “racing” with the skills of swimming in this squad.

Swim Fit: (2 – 5 Sessions per week) - $115 (2 Sessions) or $150 (3+ Sessions) per Month plus $20 annual membership

The focus of this squad is to enable teenagers to continue to enjoy the fitness aspect of swimming whilst not having the pressures of having to compete. It is a big focus of us here at Sydney Uni to empower our swimmers to achieve at what they excel in, whether that be in another sport or at school. This squad is often the bridge between competitive and non-competitive swimming and many swimmers use this squad as they progress through higher school exams.

State Target Squad: (4 – 6 Sessions per week) - $170 per Month plus $20 annual membership

The focus of this squad is to see swimmers qualify for and perform at a high level at State Age Championships. Furthermore, this program is to prepare the swimmers for their transition into the National Target Squad once the required age and performance level has been reached. As the numbers in this squad increase, we will look to have a junior (12 & Under) and senior (13 & Over) component to this squad, due to the differences in their developmental needs. There is a real emphasis on “training” the skills of swimming in this squad.

Emerging Squad: (4 – 5 Sessions per week) - $160 per Month plus $20 annual membership

The focus of this squad is to see young swimmers qualify for the Metropolitan Championships. Furthermore, this program is to prepare the swimmers for their transition into the State Target Squad. Targeting our 10 to 12 year old talented swimmers, there is a real emphasis on “developing” the skills of swimming in this squad.

Junior Emerging Squad: (3 – 4 Sessions per week) - $150 per Month plus $20 annual membership

The focus of this squad is to build the confidence of your young swimmers who show potential. We want to prepare them with all the right tools to take their swimming journey to the next step into racing and preparing them for the Emerging Squad. Targeting our 10 & Under talented swimmers, there is a real emphasis on “learning” the skills of swimming in this squad.

LEARN TO SWIM

The Learn to Swim Program is focused on providing children and adults the opportunity to develop a strong relationship with the water by ensuring that participants experience the water in a supported and enjoyable way. Our program is designed to build on previous skill competencies in the water. This, in combination with small class sizes, ensure that swimmers are remain engaged and confident whilst still being challenged. Students are graded regularly throughout the term and feedback is provided regarding their progress.
